Intro: Public Art Saint Paul is looking for teaching artists working in public art, to think outside the box and imagine innovative activities, to engage youth in arts experiences centered on the theme of stewardship of our natural environment.
About eARTh Lab: eARTh Lab is an eco-friendly youth arts education program of eight weekly workshops, located in Western Sculpture Park. eARTh Lab invites participation free of charge, especially from families in the park’s vicinity. This year’s theme is “Stewardship of Our Natural Environment.” Curated activities center workshops that are meant to develop skills, promote personal growth, and to encourage a new generation of active citizens through the power of public art. Workshops engage teaching artists, education interns, and wonderful volunteers in learning that is open to youth of all ages. Free snacks are provided by eARTh Lab, a program generously supported in its entirety by the Ecolab Foundation. Moreover, eARTh Lab locates near the park’s rain garden, whose maintenance is made possible by funding from Capital Region Watershed District.
Salary: $500 per workshop, with up to $100-materials allowance per workshop.
Term: Nine consecutive Tuesdays, June 16-August 11, noon-4:30, as well as two meetings prior and two thereafter.
Hours: Teaching Artists schedule: Arrive to set up at 1:30. Activity time 2:00 to 4:00. Cleanup and loadout 4:00 to 4:30.
Qualifications: Artists working in all forms of public art are eligible to apply. Experience in teaching art to youth is highly desired.

Job Description: eARTh Lab Teaching Artists will engage elementary school aged youth in an environmentally themed activity that they will have proposed, centered on the theme of stewardship of our natural environment. eARTh Lab is a drop-in program, so that youth may and do join midway through a workshop activity, as well as midway through the series. Participating youth register at the info table upon arriving, if they arrive late they are briefed on the activity by staff to help them catch up. Public Art Saint Paul will provide an assistant to Teaching Artists during workshop hours, to set up, to help Teaching Artists as requested, to support participants, and to assist with cleanup and loadout.
Job Responsibilities: Upon being selected, Teaching Artists will meet with PASP staff, to review and develop their workshop activity plans, to ensure they meet program expectations. Thereafter, selected Teaching Artists meet with PASP staff the week before their activity, to discuss it and to address related questions or concerns. At the latter meeting, we plan for site layouts. Selected Teaching Artists are expected to arrange for transportation to/from Western Sculpture Park, for themselves and their materials.

Presentation: After the group makes their instruments and props, they put on a short show using the water instruments and props to act out water falling from the clouds and rising back into the clouds when the sun comes out.
