Seasonal Part Time Position: Field Coordinator, Sidewalk Poetry

 

Job Description Summary:

The Field Coordinator, Sidewalk Poetry is a part time, temporary seasonal employee of Public Art Saint Paul (PASP). With a single installation scheduled for June, and a season likely beginning in early Sep 1, 2025, the Field Coordinator will work 200-400 hours over the course of the poetry stamping season, possibly lasting until early November. This position’s work schedule depends upon the construction schedule for the City of Saint Paul’s (the “City’s”) Sidewalk Maintenance Program (“SMP”) and the City SMP Contractor’s schedule. The Field Coordinator is responsible for day-to-day, on-site oversight and correct implementation of Sidewalk Poetry installations in designated sidewalk panels, as described below.

 

Employee Handbook:

PASP’s Employee Handbook provides information about our employment practices and policies and the benefits provided to Field Coordinator as a valued employee. It also describes the conduct expected of the Field Coordinator within our work environment and as a representative of PASP in our community. The Field Coordinator is required to review then sign a copy of the Employee Handbook to be shared with upon the signing of this contract.

 

Reporting:

For Sidewalk Poetry work, the Field Coordinator will report to PASP’s Executive Director, including via a standing weekly 30-min meeting. Weekly, the Field Coordinator is to submit an updated list of stamps, identifying poems and matching them to their locations.

 

Performance Review:

A conclusive report is to be completed by the Field Coordinator, to be followed by a meeting to discuss its content. The summative report is of several pages and address various aspects of the season’s stamping experience.

 

Tenure:

Employment term begins on June 1, 2024, with a one-off poem to be stamped exceptionally, representing a training exercise of sorts and benefiting from concerted planning and support. Actual work is likely to begin in the first week of September, though work could start sooner or later in a way that cannot be controlled by PASP, but rather by budgetary, logistical, climactic, and other factors. Furthermore, after stamping season begins, accompanying sidewalk concrete pours, the Field Coordinator’s work schedule depends upon the City SMP construction season and contractor schedule. Accordingly, this position is best suited to those ready to work with notice as late as early morning of the day of a given pour, and work abruptly, but eventually reaching 200 stamps or more

 

Salary:

$30/hour paid on a biweekly basis, to include meetings and other approved supportive activities.

 

Place of Work:

The  Field Coordinator will be lent a work truck from SMP. In addition to abiding by the terms of PASP’s Employee Handbook, the Field Coordinator will be expected to conform to the protocols and workplace rules associated with the use of City workplaces and vehicles.

 

Expense Reimbursement:

All expenses must be discussed with then approved by the Executive Director beforehand, as reasonable toward the performance of Field Coordinator’s duties. Purchases my be made by PASP or by Field Coordinator to then be reimbursed with the provision of a reimbursement report and relevant receipts.

 

Insurance:

The Field Coordinator is covered under PASP’s General Liability and Worker’s Compensation insurance policies.

 

Responsibilities:

*Travel to various parts of the city following the SRP plan. This may be via loaned work truck.

*Maintain inventory, by managing, maintaining, and properly storing poetry stamps and stamping tools.

*Stay in close communication with the appropriate minders in the City’s Department of Public Works and the City Sidewalk Inspector as to the day-to-day construction schedule

*Communicate with the SMP contractor as needed to establish work schedules and carry out the stamping process.

*Manage the timing and quality of the poetry installations and prepare the sites.

*Fill out daily construction log, track poetry installation locations, and record resident choices and feedback to document the process.

*Assist PASP with photo and video documentation of the program and its processes.

*Assist the SMP Contractor as needed regarding changes or updating of stamps and processes.

*Provide information to homeowners upon request about poetry stamping sites, per approved city process.

*Report to PASP Executive Director any concerns about the process that you observe or that are conveyed to you by homeowners, City staff, or the SMP Contractor.

*Clean and return all Sidewalk Poetry tools, supplies, and keys at the end of the season.

*Fill out and submit biweekly timesheets for pay, per Public Art Saint Paul protocols.

*Perform other administrative and office duties in support of producing, reporting, and evaluating Sidewalk Poetry (all of which paid of course).
